Hello everyone,
Happy New Year wishes to you all.
I hope your year has begun well.
My year so far has involved paper making and book making, watering the garden and playing with my grand children.
A couple of students asked for a 'Bring Your Own Project Day' workshop so this will be the first workshop for the year followed by
LETS GET TOGETHER AND PRINT A BOOK workshop at Meeniyan.February 20th
Details and booking here: http://meeniyanartgallery.com.au/ or more details below.
The Papermakers of Victoria have a couple of wonderful workshops coming up.
Sculptural Kozo with Gail Stiffe February 13 & 14 2016 Details and booking here: www.papermakers.org.au
The other workshop is North Country Shifu with a wonderful tutor Velma Bolyard from USA March 12 & 13. I am going to this as I know Velma is a very interesting artist and tutor. Details of this workshop are on the papermakers web site also.
I have been playing with paper again as usual. I made some paper samples, 250 x A4 sheets for the international paper group and started making some lovely paper from my husband's old jeans.
I wonder what I will do with this.
The international paper group IAPMA is celebrating its 30th year with the theme of Pearl.
My book for the exhibition is titled 'The moon hung like a pearl in the night sky'
The other book I made for my sister so I could practise the single needle coptic binding I learnt with Ann Baxter. This binding enables you to make windows in the pages and display art work. The cover paper is feathers collected throughout northern Australia by my sister. I have photocopied them onto my hand made paper.
The feathers on the pages are mono prints using my Gelli plate and paper press. I like the black feathers after they have been used for printing.
PAPERMAKING WORKSHOP
I will run a papermaking workshop for 2 or more here at Box Hill or for groups of 5 or more at Coopers Settlement Bundoora through the Papermakers of Victoria.
LET’S GET TOGETHER AND PRINT A BOOK
Saturday February 20th 2016
at Meeniyan Gallery
Bookings through the gallery. meeniyanartgallery.com.au
Have you often wondered what to include in a blank book? Have you ever wanted to make a book with prints in it?
This workshop is a good way to get started on some simple printing which can decorate a book page. We will begin the day carving a simple block from a drawing of a tree, leaf or a bird. The concertina book we make will be a display space for our prints which we will share.
At the end of the day, you will have learnt how to make:
a concertina book in which we will display our prints
your own ‘soft cut’ print block
a clever hard cover, with no glue
You will take home a book of beautiful prints and a print block to use again and again.
Look out for more workshops in my February newsletter.
Visit my web site for more images and information about other workshops I run.
Workshops taylored to your needs can be organised on request.
