GREETINGS FROM THE WORLD OF PAPER

Here is a glimpse of what I have been doing.

Making paper from Kangaroo grass.  Spending a beautiful week in the Grampians and recording my twice daily labyrinth walk in a concertina book. While in Dunkeld I spent a lovely afternoon at Off The Rails Gallery teaching an enthusiastic group of artists how to bind their own book. On the way home I visited the Lost Trades Fair in Kyneton and demonstrated papermaking with Papermakers of Victoria.

The paper I made from jeans accepted the fabric prints very well.  The resulting book is 'STITCH' .

This book PERFORATED , along with STITCH ,has been entered in an exhibition in the US.  I will let you know later if they were accepted.

The workshops I have run this year have been most successful.  One highlight was the choice the new papermakers made, to come to my studio and bind their beautiful papers into a journal.  The varied results were all delightful.

Coptic Bound Book

Coptic binding is one of the earliest forms of stitching pages together.

It dates back to the early Christians in Egypt.

This binding creates an attractive chain stitch across the spine of your book

which enables the book to open flat.

This workshop will teach you an interesting hard cover style which I learnt from Sandy Webster.  It makes the attaching of the cover easier and allows for concentrating on the coptic binding.

It is suitable for those wishing to learn the binding or revise the stitch.
