May News

Hello everyone,

How did we get to May.  I must have been enjoying myself.

Workshops

The workshop scheduled for Papermakers of Victoria did not go ahead so I am running it at my studio  as follows.

Too Good To Write In

Many people have said to me that they have a precious book that they have made or been given and it is –

This workshop invites you to bring a blank book that you would like to start working in.

Treat your blank book like an invitation. Enrich the pages, add colour, pattern and texture. As Dorothy Simpson Krause says, ‘Your  book will begin to sing, beguile, soothe and excite.’ The complexity you add will make your pages richer.

This workshop will teach you ways to add content to an already bound book. We will start working in the book, preparing the pages  for added content. With guidance, you will be encouraged to cut windows in the pages, add colour and remove some pages to make    way for other inclusions. Before you come, give some thought to how you might use your book. Will it be a travel journal, a recipe  book, a daily journal, a book of wise words – your own or someone else’s –  or a book in which to record some of your family history.

What else have I been doing?

Although it was a while ago, I did say I would report on the White Line Printing workshop I did at Grampians Texture with Sandy Webster.

It was a wonderful week learning new skills. My cockatoos turned out well and I still have my wooden blocks to print from later.

My workshop at Opendrawer was most successful as you can tell from the books made over the three days.

The Papermaker's exhibition was most successful.  I sold my shifu vessels and my other works are now at The Alcove Art Shop for their Autumn Exhibition.

Included is a new boat 'Rescued From the Flood and my smaller spiral which was not accepted for the Deakin Uni. exhibition.

Recent papermaking included some lovely  paper made with lemon grass from my sister's garden.

and some paper packs for the Handmade for Humans group who are raising money for Asylum seekers.

I also had a very enjoyable day with some of the papermakers at our studio when we made wonderful brushes with natural materials.

The experimenting included making marks with inks and dyes.

Remember that Papermakers of Victoria will have a wonderful program of workshops running this year so keep an eye on their web site.
